Dyer Recognized for Community Service, Improving Relationship Between Gilford and Laconia
The Gilford Board of Selectmen recently dedicated the 2017 Annual Report to Attorney Rod Dyer. The dedication reads in part: “The selectmen wish it to be known that they have selected Mr. Dyer for this honor because of his lifetime commitment to community service and in recognition of his accomplishments towards improving the relationship between the Town of Gilford and the City of Laconia”.
Dyer was born and raised in Laconia, graduating in 1954 from LHS. After graduating from law school, he and his wife Gail settled briefly in Gilford before returning to his home town. The two have resided alternately in the two areas since that time, recently relocating once again to Laconia.
In the 1990’s, while living in Gilford and working in Laconia, Dyer became concerned with the deteriorating relationship between the two communities. It was his belief that the socio-economic fiber of the two were inherently tied. He sought out a means to strengthen the industrial base and benefit both communities by encouraging both increased jobs and prosperity. Out of his concern and efforts, came the Lakes Business Park situated on Hounsell Ave on property located partially in each of the communities. Laconia initiated Phase I in the mid-1990’s, followed by Phase II, a joint venture between the two communities in 2002.
Dyer has been deeply involved in the communities he’s lived, serving two terms as Mayor of Laconia. He was Chairman of the Laconia School Board and Bank of NH and a co-founder of the Lakes Business Group and Lakes Region Community Health and Hospice. Dyer has been heavily involved in the Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region, Winnipesaukee Yacht Club, Laconia/Gilford Economic Development Authority Kiwanis Club, Community Health and Hospice, preservation of the Belknap Mill, the Colonial Theater restoration and until his recent move back to Laconia, he served as the Gilford Representative on the Joint Board of Commissioners of the Lakes Business Park . Dyer’s devotion to service has been acknowledged by many awards. He is a recipient of the James Irwin Community Service Award and the Belknap County Economic Development Council’s Norman Marsh Award.
Dyer is senior partner at Wescott Law where he has played a major role in real estate and condominium development for more than thirty-five years. Rod’s experience includes all types of residential and commercial development, zoning and planning, condominiums, shopping centers, business and corporate representation and commercial transactions.
