Attorney Hemeon Retires after 46 Years of Client Representation
After 46 years of client representation and service to our community, Attorney Bob Hemeon has retired. In honor of Hemeon’s years of service, and to wish him well in retirement an Open House is being held at the Belknap Mill on June 28th from 4:30 – 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
A veteran of the US Navy, Hemeon joined Wescott Law as a partner in 1999, after nearly three decades as a criminal and civil litigator, thirteen of which was with Attorneys Phil McLaughlin and Matt Lahey. Atty. Mike Murphy was part of that firm for a period of that time as well.
Throughout his career Hemeon was considered a leading practitioner in the State for the defense of DWI/DUI and other motor vehicle violations. He served multiple terms on the Laconia School Board and is a former President of the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association. He also served as a Superior Court Mediator and was a Governor and Secretary for the New Hampshire Bar Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region. A founding member of LEEF (the Laconia Endowment Educational Foundation), Hemeon was honored as Board Member Emeritus for his dedication to the program in 2009.
A lifetime resident of New Hampshire, Hemeon and his wife, Helen, have enjoyed extensive travel throughout their fifty-seven years of marriage and look forward to more time for further travel. “Though we have done cruises throughout the Eastern Caribbean, we prefer river cruises because they’re smaller.” Other trips have included France, Portugal and Rome. Plans are already in the works for a river cruise in Switzerland with a few days in Paris.
Quieter pursuits include reading, as well as some writing. “I’m no writer” states Hemeon, “I’m not looking to get published, but I lived with a wonderful set of grandparents during WWII and I’d like to write about that experience to pass it on to my grandson.” Hemeon is also considering local non-profits that he might volunteer for. He has taken up golf which appears to not be going well. “They should call it ‘frustration’ instead”, says Hemeon of his thoughts on the game thus far.
Wescott Law Senior Partner Rod Dyer states, “Bob is an excellent lawyer. It has been my good fortune to be his friend and law partner for many years. His colleagues admire his dedication to the law as well as his community service. We wish him well in his much-deserved retirement”.
